Fox Islands Wind (FIW) is developing a Community Benefits Plan (CBP) as part of its grant and loan award from the USDA Rural Utilities Service’s New ERA program. Every New ERA project is required to implement a CBP that ensures federal investments deliver meaningful local benefits.
FIW received a New ERA grant to partially repower its wind turbines—a project that members of the Fox Islands Electric Cooperative (FIEC) voted to approve in July. The repowering effort will replace and upgrade aging equipment while maintaining the existing towers, foundations, and other site infrastructure. Construction is scheduled to take place between 2028 and 2030.
The draft CBP is available at www.foxislandswind.com/community-benefits-plan for our communities’ review.
